Ever since I have discovered “double rinsing,” my hair has taken a new lease on life!

Background: I have a LOT of thin hair. Thus leading it to be pretty flat and easily greasy – not to mention knotty but that’s another story haha. I felt like I had to wash my hair twice a day to just have it look nice, fresh, and have some volume to it.

That’s when I discovered 2 sources, whom I envy as “hair goals,” go through their hair routines. They both stated they double rinse their hair with shampoo and I was like I have GOT TO TRY THIS.

Here is the double rinsing hair routine:

  1. Hop in the shower, start off by getting your hair wet.
  2. Pour a decent amount of shampoo in your hand, and distribute it only on your scalp. (My current favorite is: Pureology | Clean Volume Weightless Shampoo)
  3. Scrub with your fingertips all over your scalp with enough pressure that you are giving yourself a scalp massage, for about 30 to 45 seconds (Added Bonus: this helps stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth).
  4. Rinse.
  5. Pour a smaller amount of shampoo only on your scalp (the amount should be determined by the density of the hair).
  6. Scrub for a minute. You will actually feel the shampoo react differently with your hair because it has already removed a lot of the “gunk” from the first round.
  7. Rinse completely. (The soapy water that rinses out is enough to clean the ends.)
  8. Apply conditioner only to the ends of your hair. (My current favorite is: Pureology | Hydrate Moisturizing Conditioner)
  9. Rinse completely.
  10. You are done! 🙂

Benefits I have seen for myself so far:

  • My hair gets greasy less quickly.
  • My hair is fuller / increased volume due to it actually being clean.
  • I only have to wash my hair every 3-4 days (depending on my activities).
  • Even while working out, I rinse my hair with water afterward but I do not wash it unless my hair actually calls for it.
  • One added benefit that I didn’t intend – I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis and double rinsing has also kept that at bay.

Do you double rinse? What other hidden hair secrets have you added to your shower routines?
